 TRACTION MOBILE WORKSHOPS

TRACTION 'MOBILE' COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

TRACTION is developing 'mobile workshop' capability to we can deliver 1-day 'Bicycle Build' programs for communities in need. These workshops are typically delivered in conjunction with local Councils, land/community development businesses, and community organisations. The workshops provide an experience that young people will never forget and:
  • Ensure participants have fun whilst learning new skills and making new friends,
  • Provide a unique experience that builds confidence and self-belief and fosters community connection, and
  • Build practical and life skills.

TRACTION Mentors facilitate each workshop and provide technical assistance and positive role-modelling. The workshops are perfect for those interested in learning more about bicycle mechanics and maintenance.  Participants will disassemble, re-assemble and quality-check a bicycle and get to keep the bicycle at the end of the day.
  • Places limited to 6 young people (aged 12-17 years old) and participation is typically FREE
  • It is recommended that participants wear suitably comfortable and cool clothing that may get dirty during the day. Closed toe shoes must be worn. Hi-vis safety vests and other Personal Protective Safety Equipment will be provided
  • A sausage sizzle and drinks will be provided however participants are free to bring their own food and drinks
  • Participants will be presented with a TRACTION T-shirt and Cap (valued at $60) and a certificate for successful completion of the workshop

YARRABILBA 1-DAY 'BIKE BUILD' PROGRAM

The first 1-day Bike Build workshops was held at Yarrabilba on Friday 23rd February thanks to a community development grant from Lend Lease and Bendigo Bank. TRACTION will deliver 3 workshops for 12-15 year old residents of the new masterplanned residential community at Yarrabilba. The new community in the Logan regions will ultimately be home for 50,000 residents and significant investment is being made into infrastructure like schools and  community sporting facilities. The TRACTION workshop provided an experience that the participants will never forget. They had fun whilst learning new skills and making new friends. Not only did the participants learn about bikes, they built practical and life skills in a work-like environment. Read more

BMX BREAK OUT

The TRACTION team had a ball at bayside skate parks for a series of "BMX Break Out" events held over 4 days from 8-11 January 2018. TRACTION Mentors and program participants provided FREE safety checks and tune ups for the BMX, scooter and skate board enthusiast community who came along to hang out in Redlands recreational facilities. The week started at Capalaba Skate Park and culminated with a BBQ and giveaways at the Mt Cotton Skate Park on Thursday. Thanks to Redland City Council who supported the community events. Read more
