TRACTION is delighted to have been awarded funding from the Redland Foundation through the The Jeffrey & Geraldine Underhill 2018 grant program. We are extremely grateful for the support.

Funds have been invested in vital tooling and equipment, including a specialist bicycle wheel truing stand, an industrial parts washer and sand blaster, and a 180-piece tool kit with chest and trolley. These assets will assist with community education, skill development, health and wellbeing of young people in need from the Redlands community. They also provide for enhanced safety in the delivery of TRACTION programs as the items purchased ensure participants are able to receive instruction and access the ‘right tools for the job’.

22/9/2018

Thanks to a Brisbane City Council grant supported by Doboy Ward Councillor Ryan Murphy, TRACTION ran the "School's Out" community events at the recently upgraded Murarrie Skate Park on 21-22 September.

The "School's Out" sessions are inclusive, family friendly events intended for forge vibrant local communities. Riders of all ages and experience levels participated in the event, which featured pro-rider demonstrations, 'come and try' and free-ride opportunities, free bike maintenance and safety checks, sausage sizzle and drinks.

Saturday afternoon was a BMX Jam dedicated to the local community and featuring LUX BMX and COLONY BMX. Special thanks to Mitch and Evan, founders of LUX BMX, and Clint Millar, founder of COLONY, for joining in the Jam and for getting the word out about the events. LUX and COLONY are Brisbane icons with global reach in the BMX industry. It was awesome to have Mitch, Evan and Clint giving time to the community at grassroots level.

Shout out to Josh Dove, pro rider for the COLONY BMX team, who not only threw down some mind-numbing moves on his COLONY bike, but also shared his knowledge with younger riders and leading by example.
The atmosphere on the day was fantastic, with the older and more experienced riders welcoming the young kids and beginners, making them feel safe and helping them find their way on the skate park. It was a real testament to the BMX community.

Riders were thrilled with plenty of giveaways from LUX BMX and 3 participants, most new to BMX riding, were the lucky winners of 3 new BMX bikes thank to COLONY.

Heartfelt thanks to Councillor Ryan Murphy who supported the events first proposed by TRACTION in June and recommended them for community grants through the Lord Mayor Suburban Initiatives Fund.

DUST HUSTLE 7 WRAP - KEEP YOUR HEAD!

1/9/2018

TRACTION is stoked to be part of the Hustle. The team from Ellaspede are Brisbane-based, independent, custom motorcycle builders and have been great supporters of TRACTION since we started in 2015. Their “Dust Hustle” events are open to all the weird and wonderful motorcycles that could possibly be ridden on the dirt.

DH7 was our quirkiest involvement yet. TRACTION built 5 x 'Postie' bikes for Hustlers to ride at the event. Each bike was named in honour of past graduates of the program - Sam, Luke, Ava, Bailey and Jack. It was awesome to have Sam himself helping out at the event.

5 mad punters paid $295 each for the experience of a lifetime, with $200 of the ticket proceeds flowing to TRACTION. No bike, no matter! Robbie, Damian, Luke, Brett and Michael had a blast and rode the posties like legends around the flat track.

We also kicked of the "Kermit" fundraising raffle. Kermit is a custom scrambler-style postie built by the TRACTION team and all proceeds from our 2018 raffle help deliver our empowering youth programs. To get tickets or find out more about Kermit, click HERE.
