VOLUNTEER ON MELBOURNE CUP DAY1. WORKSHOP SUPPORTWORKSHOP SUPPORTERS work with our Mentor team to help young people aged between 12-17 years on bicycle, small engine and motorcycle projects. You don't have to be a bicycle or mechanical expert, just have a heart for empowering young people in need.
It is preferred that Workshop Supporters attend a workshop on the same day each week, ideally for the duration of each 8-10 week school term. TRACTION workshops operate on weekdays during the hours of 8.30am - 2.30pm and are located in Capalaba and Moorooka. Whilst some of our Workshop Supporters are bicycle or motorcycle enthusiasts, they have an immense range of experience. This diverse and vibrant team is the foundation of the TRACTION Community. Our volunteers share one distinct trait - a commitment to guiding TRACTION participants through an action-based learning environment of creativity, empowerment and ownership. Conditions apply* for those working with children. 2. BIKE BUILDERTRACTION is fortunate to receive bicycles donated by the community. Most become projects for our participants to work on as part of the Bicycle Build program. At graduation, the students get to keep these bicycles! We do receive many bicycles that are either surplus to requirements or are not suitable for the program. BIKE BUILDERS build, service & repair these surplus bicycles in preparation for sale or donation to the community. Proceeds from sale of bicycles directly help TRACTION support young people. BIKE BUILDERS also assist with workshop and storage facility maintenance.
Most bike building takes place at our West End storage facility, generously provided by Pensar, long-time supporters of TRACTION. 3. COLLECTORCollectors make a massive difference by collecting items generously donated by the community and delivering them to TRACTION workshops. Collectors travel to residential and business locations, meet TRACTION supporters and collect donated bicycles, small engines, motorbikes, parts, tooling and other items for TRACTION participants to work on as projects.
Collectors must have access to a vehicle (car, ute, trailer) and be prepared to coordinate pick up and drop off times with members of the public and other TRACTION team members. 4. ADMIN SUPPORTThere's a lot of effort 'behind the scenes' keeping TRACTION rolling and we're grateful for help with administrative work, such as maintaining systems, processing program registrations, preparing participant paperwork and kits, etc. Many admin support tasks can be done online from home.
5. EVENT SUPPORTEvent Support volunteers pitch in alongside other TRACTION team members helping organise and run fundraising and promotional events. Activities may include helping with sausage sizzles, merchandise and raffle ticket sales, setting up at venues, sharing details about the TRACTION program with event attendees, etc.
6. FUNDRAISERFUNDRAISERS contribute by helping raise funds for the TRACTION program in the community. This may involve selling raffle tickets, securing participant or school sponsorships, or coordinating events that build awareness and support for TRACTION.

* Conditions for those working with children include a requirement that Volunteers hold a current “Blue Card” from Public Safety Business Agency (PBSA) Blue Card Services. Applications can be submitted on behalf of prospective volunteers and the process involves a "Working with Children Check" being carried out. Applicants deemed to be eligible are issued with a positive notice letter and a Blue Card or Exemption Card. Police checks may also be undertaken which require applicants to provide further proof of identity and other details.
