Another delivery of corporate support for  TRACTION

National bicycle retailer 99 Bikes delivered 36 new bikes to TRACTION today. The truckload of BMX and mountain bikes   were eagerly received, however were just one part of the picture. The company also donated close to $10,000  this month to help TRACTION empower young people in need with its action-based learning programs.

TRACTION helps young people positively engage with their communities, discover talents and create their own future. TRACTION realises that some young people don’t realise their potential in a classroom and programs such as its bicycle build program engage young people and support the development of practical skills, communication and broader life skills. TRACTION participants, aged between 12-15 years, restore items donated by the community whilst being supported by volunteers and mentors who provide support and positive role modelling. At the end of the program, TRACTION participants get to keep the bicycles they restore and build.

Over 100 second-hand bikes donated in the last year alone!

Many Brisbane-based 99 Bikes stores also support TRACTION by giving second-hand bicycles that have been traded-in or donated by its customers to the program. Over 100 second-hand bikes have been donated to TRACTION in the last 12 months alone. The  bicycles are gratefully received and become projects for TRACTION participants.

Earning To Give gains momentum

99 Bikes have been supporting TRACTION since 2015 with its “Earning To Give” program the backbone of its support. Staff from 99 Bikes get the chance to choose from a number of charities and the company donates a percentage of their salaries to their chosen cause. We’re so appreciative of 99 Bikes staff who have selected TRACTION as their chosen charity. TRACTION seems to appeal to those that wish to see their donations invested for the benefit of the local community, particularly supporting youth in need. 84 new bikes were donated to TRACTION in its first year as a beneficiary of the Earning To Give  program.

Technical support for young learners

99 Bikes support for TRACTION hasn’t been limited to donating bikes and money. A team of the company’s top bicycle mechanics spent a morning with TRACTION mentors and participants in July sharing their knowledge about bikes and the industry.
